Online marketing

As the Internet became more and more popular, advertising strategists soon found out that the global network offers enormous advertising potential. Online marketing was born. The marketing methods differ considerably from those of classic marketing. Online marketing can be roughly divided into different categories. This includes email marketing, affiliate program advertising, banner advertising, viral marketing, and not to forget the largest area by far, search engine marketing. Social network marketing has been added in recent years.

The different methods

One of the first forms of advertising was definitely banner advertising. Banners with advertising are displayed on websites. These banners can then lead to other websites or to a sales page (landing page). Search engine marketing is a good example of how individual areas can overlap. Search engine optimization (SEO) can lead a website in the search engine results directly to a page with banner advertising.

But there is more to search engine marketing. In this way, advertising can also be placed on various search engines, which are paid for per click. Such advertising blocks are only displayed if they are topic-related to the user's search term. Viral marketing is interesting. In viral marketing, advertising messages or clickable links are apparently randomly incorporated into articles or videos. And then there is affiliate program marketing, or as it is borrowed from the English, affiliate marketing. This method is also often combined with the other variants.

Only email marketing stands on its own. So-called distribution lists get orders or advertise affiliate programs by sending informative e-mails to readers. However, this market has been badly damaged by black sheep in recent years, as viruses and Trojans are often sent. This has made email marketing immensely difficult. Social network marketing, also known as social network marketing, is relatively new. It is primarily about branding products. In addition, companies try to find out how consumers think of their products.

Online Marketing Earning Models

As different as these areas are, they all have one thing in common: an advertiser or merchant offers a product or service, and the publisher or affiliate advertises it. The most common earnings models are PPC (pay-per-click; remuneration per click on the banner), CPA (cost-per-action; e.g. a survey must be answered comprehensively), PPL (pay-per-lead; e.g. registration with Advertiser by email) and Rev-Share (percentage participation, with subscriptions and the like also partly longer-term participation).
